StoryProv: An evening of open mic storytelling and improv

Tilt Think Improv, Good on Paper Improv, and Here:Say Storytelling are coming together for a super-special open mic storytelling + improv show!

This show will be a lot like the Here:Say Storytelling open mics we used to do. But for this show, when the story is over, members of the Tilt Think and Good on Paper Improv troupes will take over the stage to perform scenes inspired by the story.

$10 entry at door.

What You Need to Know:

* Come to the show prepared to tell a story and throw your name in the basket.
* Storytellers will be selected randomly by pulling names from the basket until the show ends.
* Tell or read a 6-minute story.
* After you tell your story, be sure to stick around to hear the rest!
* No storytelling experience required! This is a no-pressure, no-judgment, no-scoring storytelling space.
* Anything goes except for hate speech.

What Kinds of Stories Should You Expect at Open Mic?
It can be a funny story, a sad story, a serious story, a “fall off your chair” hilarious story—but be sure it’s a true story as you remember it. Unfamiliar with live storytelling? Give the Here:Say Storytelling podcast a listen.

Comedy of Errors: An Elk Rapids Harbor Days open mic storytelling event

Elk Rapids Harbor Days welcomes Here:Say Storytelling for an evening of open mic storytelling! The May 17 fundraising event is an exciting preview of a NEW ticketed event during the Elk Rapids Harbor Days festival this summer!

The theme “Comedy of Errors” invites participants to share a personal story about a situation that went awry with unexpected, and perhaps hilarious, consequences!

What Kinds of Stories Should You Expect at Open Mic?
Great stories on stage have a beginning, middle, and end, and involve stakes (something that stands to be gained or lost). It can be a funny story, a sad story, a serious story, a “fall off your chair” hilarious story—but it must be a true “Comedy of Errors” story of an experience in the storyteller’s life.

How It Works
• No experience required! Come to the HERTH prepared to tell a story and throw your name in a basket.
• Performers will be selected randomly until the show ends. Your name wasn’t selected? Come to the Elk Rapids Harbor Day open mic event on August 3 and try again.
• Tell a 5- to 7-minute story. You’ll hear a 1-minute warning ding at 6 minutes and a “done” double-ding at 7 minutes.
• Tell from memory or read from notes—up to you!

After you tell your story, be sure to stick around to hear the rest!

Want to know more?
Listen to the Here:Say podcast (https://heresaystorytelling.podbean.com/) to get a sense of what stories on stage sound like and visit the Here:Say website (heresaystorytelling.com) to find out what we’re all about.

What Storytelling Isn’t:
• Fiction/poetry
• Stand-up comedy
• Singing/strumming
• Discriminatory speech
• Political commentary

Tickets are $10 and are available in advance at elkrapidsharbordays.org. A variety of food and drink will be available for purchase at the venue.
